Jay-z is worth millions of dollars. But he's not the richest rapper in the game. At least not this year, anyway.
Forbes released its annual list of hip-hop's highest-paid stars Thursday, and surprisingly, Jay-Z didn't score top honor. In fact, he didn't even come in second, despite having raked in nearly $40 million. No, he came in third, lagging well behind this year's cash king, Dr. Dre, and rap mogul P. Diddy

Dre hasn't released an album since 2001. But that didn't stop the guy from earning a whopping $110 million this year. How, you ask? By selling his stake in Beats by Dre headphones to HTC. Seeing as that payout accounted for $100 million of his $110 million haul, it's unlikely the rapper will top the list again anytime soon.

Diddy, meanwhile, also made his millions through a business venture. According to Forbes, the majority of the rapper's $45 million haul came courtesy of his lucrative partnership with Ciroc vodka.

The first woman to crack the list is Nicki Minaj, who comes in at the No. 8 spot with $15.5 million in earnings. Here's how the rest of the big names in hip-hop fared, via Forbes.
